Went to the orientation yesterday , DD's class has 22 kids, 1 teacher and 1 assistant. I feel like that's too many kids and not enough adults ...

I went to my DD's pre-k orientation yesterday too! Same ratio - 22 kids (16 full-day, 6 mornings only) with 1 teacher and 1 assistant.

I worked in a preschool for two years. I am pretty sure that they told us that the ratio was 10:1 for the four year old program and 8:1 for the 3 year old program. My girls are going o be 3 in NOv. they have 12 kids in their class and there are 3 adults.

I teach in an elementary school and the preschool teacher told me the most she can get is 18 or 20 (I can't remember.. It is her and a teacher's assistant in the class.

DSs class has one teacher and one assistant for 9 kids. There are two 4 year old classes in his school and both have the same number of kids.

Pre-K at Catholic school -
19 kids
1 teacher + 1 assistant teacher

DD's school is a cooperative school - we have 20 kids, 1 head teacher, 2 assistants and a parent every day.

My son had 9 kids - 1 teacher and 1 Asst in his private 3 year old class.

In the 4 year old prgoram (UPK) there were 15 kids to 1 teacher and 1 asst.

DD's pre-K class last year was 13 students. Not all were there full day, some went home at noon. She had 1 teacher and 1 assistant. There were 2 classes of that same set-up.

My DD's class has 28 students, one teacher and two assistants.

My older DD had the exact same number when she was in PreK and I had my reservations, but the teacher (she actually co-wrote the PreK curriculum for the whole Diocese of Brooklyn) and the class are FABULOUS! I don't know how she does it...they learn so much, have so much fun and yet you could hear a pin drop in that classroom!

upk is 16:1:1 in our district - 4 year old dc was same

3 year old daycare was 7:1 - usually 14:1:1

14 kids 2 teachers and 2 helpers.

But I think any one given day its about 15 or so because of half day and alternate day kids.

At the Y Cai will have 2 teachers and 2 assistants for 20 kids....

I just did a google search for NYS center based childcare and early childhood education. From what I see, there shouldn't be any classes over 20 kids. Childcare facility should be a 1:8 ratio and and early childhood facility should be 1:10 ratio, and a headstart was 1:7 ratio.

eta: that is for four year old programs.
